Students will progress into advanced theatre training, which encompasses acting, directing, playwriting, dramaturgy, and design. The concepts that students learn will aide in creating a foundation for any branch of theatre a student chooses to pursue in future study and practice. The goal of the course is to provide students with advanced opportunities for theatre practice and to nurture their development in all areas, regardless of one’s talents or natural abilities. Upon completion of the course, students will be prepared to pursue opportunities for further theatre training in a college or conservatory program.
In providing skills and techniques, the primary objective of this course is to place the student in the creative process of those artists engaged in creating theatre so as to stimulate the student’s own theatrical imagination—i.e. learning by doing.
Students discover the creative, collaborative nature of theatre by working with exercises that consistently simulate the creative work of theatre. As does theatre itself, this course demands a highly interactive, team playing commitment and, because of this, attendance at all classes is expected.
